Interview with Associated Content, the People’s Media Company

Sara Martin

“Thanks again for this, it was a lot of fun answering these questions! ” That was the words that came from talented and awesome singer, Sarah Blacker. She was ever so nice to chat with me. I knew I had to get to know this girl after running across her profile on myspace. I feel in love with her song, Talk to Me. I took the chance and email her to see if she would like to do an interview, and here are the results.

SM- Okay Sarah, tell me a little about yourself.

SB- I’m 24, and I love people, psychology, philosophy, and good conversation. I’m a work in progress, and will forever be this way. I live my life based around love, music, learning, expression, and sharing experiences that I’ve learned from, which may be able to help others learn about themselves and their life experiences too. I’m also currently finishing my degree in music therapy, and plan to continue my career in this field as well.

SM- I adore your song, Talk to me. Who inspired that song?

SB- I’ll tell you partly, so… it’s about my big brother. He’s probably the most amazing visual artist I know, and definitely admired by many, including me. He’s not quite the talker that I am, so I always wonder what he’s thinking…

SM-I thought of my father when I listened to that song, he’s not a big talker either. When did you know you wanted to be a musician?

SB- Actually, not until my junior year of high school did I devote hours upon hours to singing, playing guitar and songwriting. I was always in musicals, bands, choirs, competing and such, but I pretty much wanted to play music constantly, when I turned 17. I’ve been involved in music somehow since I was tiny, (records, piano lessons, apparently always singing on the top of my lungs around the house…) but as soon as I knew, there was no turning back. It came pretty naturally to me, but I’ve got a long way to go!

SM- I think you’re amazing! So, what do you do for fun?

SB- Drink plum wine and read, or write. Take pictures of tiny details. Walk in the woods. Improvise on the piano. Go dancing. People-watch. Coffee-shoppe hop. Make strange noises with my amazing and obnoxiously adorable dog, Beasley. Nerd out by asking the questions to the Internet, and letting the answers lead me to the unknown. Watch CSI: Vegas. Meet interesting people. Make people laugh.

SM-OH wow, we not only have the same name, but pretty much the same interest! AMAZING. Who is someone that you’ve performed with that made you feel like, WOW!

SB- Well when I opened for Vince Welnick of the Grateful Dead, it was pretty cool to hear his stories about Jerry and the band, but I’ve said wow about so many people. The most wonder in music I find these days, is in doing music therapy with the multi-disabled, medically fragile kids and adults I work with every day. The ways in which they communicate, and lead you into their worlds through music, is indescribable by words. They are the real heroes, with so much personality and soul! My favorite moments in performing with anyone, are when you stop judging yourself, and just let the music do the talking. I’ve performed with so many unique people, and each one has taught me so much!

Closing words to any readers:
Figure yourself out. How you learn, what makes you tick, what makes you happy, and so on. Be honest, follow your heart, and express yourself. Be scared, but then leap, and the net will come. Try new things, life is a banquet, don’t starve, and remember, this ain’t no dress rehearsal…live as if today were your last!!!

lots of love,
sb :)

Wow, her closing statement left chills all over my body! It is so true…life is what you make it. This was one of my favorite interviews so far. Sarah’s contagious love for life was very inspiring to me. I would encourage anyone to check out her music and deep lyrics. http://www.myspace.com/sarahblacker
